Regional bus and train drivers strike in support of a better pay deal

Commuters and travellers were hit by a nationwide strike by regional bus and train drivers on Thursday, who have downed tools in support of a better pay and conditions deal.

The strike began at 4am and will continue until 11pm, the FNV and CNV transport unions said.

The strike affects buses operated by Arriva all over the country as well as trains in Limburg but not Arriva trains in Friesland, Groningen, Overijssel, Drenthe and Zuid-Holland.

All Connexxion and Qbuzz services are also halted, as are those operated by Brava, Breng, EBS, Hermes and Keolis (formerly Syntus).

The unions are demanding less pressure of work and a 3.5% pay rise while employers have offered a 2% increase and no agreement on working conditions.

The unions say that if no agreement is reached, they will organise longer strikes.
