A small Frisian village called Eastermar, whose main claim to fame to date has been that it is the birthplace of top model Doutzen Kroes, has won the top prize in the Postcode Lottery’s New Year draw.

Just two addresses in the village with the postcode 9261 XC take part in the lottery and they will share the €26.95m winnings.

One couple, who have played the lottery for 15 years, have won €17.9m. ‘We did not really get any sleep,’ winner Sonja, 64, told RTL Nieuws. ‘It is wonderful but we are not used to all the attention.’

The rest of the village – which totals around 1,500 people – will share €26.95m – if they take part in the lottery, that is.
