Serial entertainment entrepreneur Duncan Stutterheim has acquired a major stake in Amsterdam’s cultural hotspot Westergasfabriek. The complex of 17 buildings adjoining Amsterdam’s Westerpark, was transformed from a gas processing plant into a cultural centre in 2003..

The Westergasfabriek is one of Amsterdam’s biggest cultural venues, hosting bars, restaurants, clubs, music festivals, markets, a park, a kids pool, house parties, and a cinema. There is soon to be a hotel.

Stutterheim and a group of investors bought a large stake in the former gas plant this week. He sold his ID&T dance empire – of the Sensations dance events fame – for a substantial sum in 2013 and then decided to expand his interests in the trendier end of Amsterdam’s music and cultural scene.

He is co-owner of the A’dam tower, the former Shell Research headquarters in Amsterdam-Noord opposite the city’s central rail station. This now comprises a lookout spot, revolving restaurant, hotel and offices. In addition he owns Stutterheims Nachtlab, an office building the western port area with 30 DJ studios, a DJ school and production companies.
