Radio presenter apologises after frightening singer with nude man

A Dutch radio presenter has apologized to a young female singer after confronting her with a nude man while she was singing live on air.

Maan de Steenwinkel, who is 20, was performing on Radio 538 when she was confronted, as she put it ‘with a willy in my face’. The singer, who won the Voice of Holland competition in 2015, was so shocked she burst into tears, while presenter Frank Dane and other men in the studio laughed.

The incident appeared to have been lost to radio history until singer Tim Knol raised it on Twitter this weekend, and called on fellow singers to boycott the station. The incident was picked up by others who accused the station of sexual intimidation.

‘And to think that she [Maan] depends on a radio station with sleazy little men who think sleazy men fantasties are fun to sell her music,’ said Volkskrant columnist Sheila Sitalsing.

Maan says she has now put the incident behind her. ‘The streaker story really shocked me and was a totally misplaced and really stupid prank,’ she said on her Instagram account.

‘It really made me feel awful but it was three weeks ago and, after several apologies from Frank and his team, the incident is now closed.’

In the 538 studio, Maan said she had been overwhelmed by all the attention for the incident. ‘I’m now going to focus all my energy on positive things, like my club tour,’ she said.
