The man shot in the leg at Schiphol airport on Friday was ‘known to the military police’ and had been arrested on earlier occasions for causing trouble at the airport, according to the police Facebook page.

The 29-year-old man was shot by police after threatening them with a knife in a military police office close to the main Schiphol Plaza area. The hall was evacuated for safety reasons for a short while and some trains were cancelled during the incident.

The man was taken to hospital. Police have not commented on his possible motives.
