Household spending in the Netherlands rose by 3.1% in September over the same month in 2016, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.

This was the highest growth rate since January, the CBS said. However, the conditions for higher household spending are more favourable in November than they were in September, the statistics agency added.

Households spent 9% more on clothing, shoes and household goods and furnishings. But spending on food was lower than a year earlier.

Last week, the CBS said that retail sales were 6% higher in September year-on-year.
