September car sales nearly 8% higher, Volkswagen most popular make

A total of 35,964 new cars were sold in the month of September, a 7.9% increase over the year-earlier month, car sector organisations RAI Vereniging, BOVAG and RDC said in a statement on Wednesday.

The lobby groups said  323,797 new cars were registered in the nine months through September, a 13.6% increase over the first nine months of 2016 when 285,115 new cars were sold in the Netherlands.

The most popular makes in September were Volkswagen with a 10.7% market share, followed by Opel (10.4%), Renault (8.6%), Peugeot (8.4%) and Kia (5.5%).

The Volkswagen Golf, including the Sportsvan, was the single most popular model sold in September, the groups said.
