A 16-year-old Hungarian girl has been removed by police from a brothel in Eindhoven, local broadcaster Omroep Brabant said on Wednesday.

Police said it may have been the girl’s first day working behind a window in the city’s red light district. She claimed to be 18 and showed police someone else’s ID.

The area is regularly monitored by police who also check the ages of women working there, Omroep Brabant said.

Police told the broadcaster that it is very unusual to find such young girls working behind the windows. Since a major clean up in the district, the situation has improved, police said.

In 2012 four men were convicted of human trafficking after police launched a major crackdown in the area. And last year, the mayor closed down three windows because of concerns about the owners.

The girl was taken to a safe place and will be returned to her parents in Hungary.  Police, meanwhile, have opened a human trafficking inquiry.
