80,000 tickets sold ahead of European hockey championships

The European hockey championships kick off in Amsterdam on Friday and at least five days of the 10-day tournament are already sold out, the organisers said on Monday.

In total 16 teams from 10 different countries are taking part in the championships at the Wagener stadium in the Amsterdamse Bos.

The event starts on Friday with the Dutch women’s team, who lost out  to England at the previous championships two years ago, taking on Spain.The Dutch women have lost three of their older star players –  Maartje Paumen, Ellen Hoog and Naomi van As and this is the first major outing for the new look side.

The Dutch man’s team, who are defending champions, meet Spain on Saturday evening.
