Tour de France race begins with Dutch eager for success

The 104th Tour de France cycle race began in Dusseldorf, Germany, on Saturday.

Welshman Geraint Thomas won the first day’s 14km time trial while Germany’s Marcel Kittel won the second stage on Sunday. Amsterdammer Dylan Groenewegen came fifth, reports the AD.

The third day begins in Belgium’s Verviers and ends in Longwy, northern France. The AD reports that Dutch hopeful Tom Leezer is battling a knee injury after his efforts yesterday.

Most Dutch papers are running live result and commentary. The race ends on Sunday July 23rd.
