A man who earned €100,000 selling fake branded watches online has been arrested in Enschede.

The 45-year-old imported the watches from China and offered them for sale on websites such as Facebook and Marktplaats, NOS reported.

Between 2015 and 2016 he sold 750 watches, sometimes charging extra for fake presentation boxes and certificates of authenticity. He was caught when customs officers intercepted a consignment arriving from China.

The tax office’s fraud investigation unit (FIOD) has launched a criminal inquiry into the man’s activities after seizing 100 fake watches and a BMW in a raid on his home.
