A clean sweep at the group stage put the Dutch women’s football team into the quarter finals of the European championships on Monday night.

Oranje beat Belgium 2-1 in Tilburg, with goals from Sherida Spitse and Lieke Martens.

In the other group A match, Denmark beat Norway 1-0 to move into second place and into the next round.

The Netherlands will meet the runners up in Group B on Saturday in the quarter finals.

‘The most important thing is that we perform with the women’s team,’ coach Sarina Wiegman told Uefa.com.

‘In the past women’s football was just there but now people start to love the women’s game and the team as well and I hope that this adds to the development of women’s football. This tournament is very important in that development.’
