Car sales up 17% in first half of 2017

Car sales in the Netherlands rose by 17% in the first half of 2017 compared to the year-earlier period, the Telegraaf reported over the weekend.
The sector organisations BOVAG, RAI Vereniging and RDC jointly said 226,509 cars were sold up to 30 June, compared with 193,914 cars in the first half of 2016. This is an increase of 16.8%.
Most of the new car sales came from the business sector which was benefiting from the improved economy. In addition, the tariff for the private use of a car leased by a company has been standardised, the organisations said.
Volkswagen was market leader with sales of 33,803 vehicles and a 10.5% stake, followed by Renault, Opel, Peugeot and Ford.
Full-year car sales are projected to reach 415,000 new cars, the paper said.
