Boskalis launched its biggest and most powerful cutting suction dredger, the Helios, in Rotterdam on Saturday, the dredging giant said in a statement.

The self-propelled Helios is 152 metres long, has a width of 28 metres and is able to operate in depths of six to 35 metres.
‘With a total installed power of almost 24,000 kW, a total pumping capacity of 15,600 kW and a maximum cutter power of 7,000 kW, the Helios is one of the most powerful cutter suction dredgers in the dredging industry,’ claims the firm.
It was developed to dredge in extremely hard ground. The cutter ladder weighs 2,060 tonnes, making it – Boskalis says – the heaviest in the world.
The Helios can accommodate a crew of 45 and can operate around the world in the most remote locations. It will be used for dredging activities related to the development of the port of Duqm in Oman, while a sister vessel is expected to be launched in 2020.
Boskalis has recorded a video on the construction of the dredger.
