A 428 km route through the Netherlands is one of nine options for a super high speed transport system unveiled by the US company Hyperloop One on Tuesday.

The plan for the nine routes was launched at the company’s Vision for Europe summit in Amsterdam.

Hyperloop travel, which is still in the experimental phase, involves loading passengers and cargo into a pod which is propelled through a low-pressure tube. The pod then lifts above the track using magnetic levitation and glides at airline speeds for long distances.

Transport minister Melanie Schultz, who was at the meeting, told broadcaster NOS she hopes to take a decision soon about whether it would be possible locate a 50 km hyperloop test facility in the Netherlands.

Last week, Schultz unveiled a 30-meter test facility at Delft University of Technology.

In January, a team of engineering students from Delft won the top prize in a US competition inspired by Tesla’s Elon Musk to design a pod for this futuristic form of transport.
