One dead after fire breaks out in a cell at Scheveningen prison

One person has been killed after fire broke out in a cell at the high security prison in Scheveningen, news agency ANP said on Thursday.

The wing of the prison where the fire started was evacuated but the blaze, which had produced heavy smoke, was swiftly extinguished. Police are now investigating what caused the fire.

The prison includes a secure psychiatric unit and unit for people who on trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. The fire took place in the psychiatric unit.
