The sale of new campers and caravans in the Netherlands reached record levels in may, according to motoring organisation Bovag.

‘After years of decline, the sale of campers and caravans has grown since March 2015,’ industry spokesman Leo Diepemaat told website Nu.nl. ‘We expect some 550,000 Dutch caravans and campers will be on the roads this summer and that is a record.’

In total, the number of new campers sold rose 59% in May, compared with the previous year, while caravan sales rose 26% year on year. The sale of second hand campers was up 7.5% and caravans 2.5%.

Bovag says the good weather and improving consumer confidence encouraged more people to buy campers and caravans.
