Dutch teenagers heading for London hurt in coach crash in France (update)

June 1, 2017

A number of Dutch secondary school pupils and two teachers have been injured in a coach crash in France, Dutch media said on Thursday, quoting French newspapers.

The driver of the coach was seriously injured and has been airlifted to hospital in Lille, broadcaster NOS said. Eleven pupils and five adults have also been taken to hospital in Dunkerk, the Telegraaf said.It is not yet clear how serious their injuries are.

The accident happened early on Thursday morning on the A16 to Calais. Some 50 pupils from the Stabrecht College in Geldrop were on their way for a day trip to London.

The accident happened when the coach ploughed into the back of a lorry which had suddenly slowed down, NOS said.

The children, aged 14 and 15, have been taken to a nearby school and bus company BBA Tours has sent a replacement coach to France to bring the children home.
