Dutch recruiters rate LinkedIn highly, networking key in job-hunting

The business and employment social networking service LinkedIn, is rated highly by Dutch recruiters, the Telegraaf said on Monday.

LinkedIn has seven million members in the Netherlands (of a total of 500 milllion worldwide) and 28% say networking got them their jobs. In addition, LinkedIn said Amsterdam was second only to London in the number of LinkedIn connections per person.

‘Indeed recruiters find LinkedIn an important source for talent,’ said Britt van Capelleveen, online recruitment specialist at recruitment agency Yacht. The Dutch are easily reachable, react often and are active in expanding their networks. I myself receive 20 invitations a day.’

This means people have to be careful to keep their online profiles updated, LinkedIn Nederland director Marcel Molenaar told the paper. ‘You have to realise the first round [in a recruitment process] takes place without you being involved,’ he said. ‘A bad LinkedIn profile means you won’t be invited or a headhunter will never find you.’
