Consumers spent 2.7% more in April of this year than they did a year ago, said the national statistics office CBS on Wednesday. The figures are adjusted for price changes and the number of shopping days each month.

The increase in April was higher than in the previous month. Consumers spent most on clothing and home furnishings. The CBS added that conditions for spending in June are less favourable than in April.

Spending on services such as rent for housing, travel by bus or train, meals in restaurants, hairdressers and insurance were nearly 2% higher than in April 2016. Services account for more than half of all consumer spending.
