Banned cycling drug does not affect performance, says new study

The banned cycling drug known as EPO does not affect cycling performance, according to a new Leiden study, published in The Lancet on Thursday.

Scientists from the Centre for Human Drug Research said that ‘scientific evidence behind doping is weak’ despite potential performance-enhancing drugs being forbidden.

But its test of 18-50 year old men, with various controls, showed no differences in cycling performance between those who had taken recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) and those who had not.
