Schiphol airport, airlines face legal action over passenger delays

Two organisations which help air travellers claim compensation if their flights are delayed plan to take legal action against Schiphol airport, the Telegraaf said on Friday.

Claimingo and ReisRecht say they will sue both the airport and airlines for the long delays during the spring holidays, which led to hundreds of passengers missing their flights. Some people reportedly had to queue for up to three hours to go through check-in and security procedures.

‘The waiting times are largely caused by airport security checks but the airlines who operate the check-in desks and the state which is responsible for passport control may also be to blame for unreasonable delays,’ Claimingo lawyer Alexander Colenbrander told the paper.

Schiphol has pledged increase the number of security staff in an effort to reduce the queues at peak periods during the summer.
