Q-Park parking provider sold for €2bn

US private equity group KKR has acquired Q-Park, the Maastricht-based parking provider for about €2bn, the NRC reported on Wednesday.

KKR emerged as winner of a five-party bidding war for Q-Park which has 870,000 parking spaces in 10 European countries. It is the largest parking garage operator in the Netherlands and Belgium. In 2016 Q-Park posted earnings of €85m on turnover of €825m. The company has a payroll of 2,500.

Q-park was in the news last week as one of the few Dutch companies to be affected by the global cyber ransomware bug. Equipment at 11 of its parking garages was hit with demands for €300 euro ransom in bitcoins which Q-Park refused to pay.
