Police in Arnhem have arrested a man after reports that a man wielding a gun had entered a community centre in the Klarendal district and had possibly taken people hostage.

Footage from local broadcaster Omroep Gelderland shows how heavily armed police officers bring out a short white man wearing underpants and with his eyes blindfolded. It is unclear if he actually had a weapon or if hostages had been taken.

At 14.10 hours, police live blog said ‘the hostage situation is under control. More information later’.

Train services between Dieren and Zevenaar were also stopped for a time because the railway is close to the community centre. Several streets were closed off and a nearby supermarket evacuated.
