The husband of Dutch jihadi suspect Laura Hansen has been arrested by Iraqi troops in Mosul, Trouw said on Friday.

The arrest of Ibrahim I, who has Dutch and Palestinian nationality, was filmed and he confirmed his identity to Iraqi journalist Amer al-Wa’elly, Trouw said. Ibrahim’s family have recognised him on the video.

Ibrahim I left for Syria at the end of 2015 with his wife, a Muslim convert, and their two children. She escaped with the children last year and is currently being held in the top security prison in Vught while her story is investigated.

The Iraqi journalist told Trouw that the 28-year-old was arrested after fighting between IS and Shiite soldiers. I was with two Russian snipers.

I had been with his wife and children when they went to the Kurdish frontline and escaped. It was said at the time he had been shot and seriously wounded by IS fighters. Since then he has had no contact with his family, but before Laura left, they were in constant touch.

The Dutch consulate in Erbil has refused to comment on the arrest reports, Trouw said.
