Energy generated from renewable sources in the Netherlands was almost unchanged at 5.9% (5.8%) in 2016, the national statistics office CBS reported on Tuesday.

According to the new figures, wind and solar energy increased by about 20%, but the share of biomass fell back by 2%. Nevertheless, biomass remains the largest source and accounts for 63% of renewable energy production.

The Netherlands is supposed to ensure 14% of its energy supply comes from renewable resources and carbon dioxide emissions are cut by 25% by 2020.
