With temperatures no higher than a chilly 10 degrees despite the sunny spells, winter is set to return to the Netherlands, weather bureau KNMI said on Monday.

Overnight there will be scattered thunderstorms bringing hail and sleet in places, and the temperature will go down to as low as two degrees. Ground frost is possible in sheltered areas.

Tuesday will remain chilly with showers and temperatures no higher than 10 degrees, with strong winds on the coast. There will be little change the rest of the week, although there may be a more widespread frost on Thursday evening, the KNMI said.

The KNMI’s long-term forecast foresees little improvement the next week as May approaches.
