The Netherlands Film Production Incentive has broadened its remit to include possible backing of high-end drama and animation series in order to attract more television and film work to the contrary, the Financieele Dagblad said on Thursday.

Set up in 2014, the NFPI will have an annual €30m to interest producers of such series as House of Cards and Game of Thrones in settings in the Netherlands, the paper said.

The organisation claims the expansion of HBO and Netflix means there will be room for more such productions.

2016 was a disappointing year for the Dutch film industry. Recent industry figures indicate that the Dutch share of the total market is at an all-time low, with Dutch-made films representing only 10% of cinema revenue. This is down 50% on previous years.
