Police have arrested a man whose three-year-old daughter was left alone in a hot car for an hour and a half.

Bystanders raised the alarm at around 4pm on Sunday after seeing the toddler in a parked car in Alkmaar. She was sweating and dehydrated but otherwise unharmed.

NH Nieuws reported that the temperature inside the vehicle had risen to 35 degrees on what was an unusually warm day for early April.

The girl’s father, a 31-year-old man from Uitgeest, was later arrested and held in custody. He was visiting the town with the child’s mother, who was questioned but not arrested.
