The Netherlands can gear up for a warm and sunny weekend, with temperatures hitting around 20 degrees on Sunday, weather forecasters say.

Saturday will be dry with sunny spells in the south and west, but it could be cloudy in the east of the country. On Sunday, however, it is set to be sunny nationwide.

The unseasonal weather is due warm air blowing in from the south, and the lowest temperatures – around 15 degrees – will be recorded on the Wadden islands, weather bureau Weerplaza said.

People taking part in the Rotterdam marathon on Sunday are being warned to make sure that they take the spring weather into account and not to dress too warmly for the event.

However, the spring weather will not continue into next week, as a colder front heads for the Netherlands. It will bring cloud and rain, especially on Wednesday, and the changeable weather will continue well into April, according to the KNMI’s long term forecast.
