Companies active in the Dutch transport sector reported revenues 0.5% lower in 2016, the first decline since 2009, the national statistics office CBS reported on Friday.

The decline last year was most pronounced in the third quarter when revenues fell by 1.5% year-on-year. Air, inland waterway and ocean carriers performed worse than in 2015, while rail and road transporters registered growth, the CBS said.

The biggest increases were seen by moving companies (+11%) which benefited from the booming housing market. Courier companies followed, with a 6.5% gain over the previous year.
