Longer opening hours, breakfasts and customised hamburgers helped push hamburger restaurant chain McDonald’s to a record €732m in sales in the Netherlands last year, the Financieele Dagblad said on Wednesday.

The upgrading of its 246 Dutch restaurants is beginning to bear fruit with sales rising 8.6% last year, the paper said. The company did not provide figures about profits.

Since last August all 162 restaurants with a McDrive facility have been open from 07:00, luring drivers in for breakfast. The company said its morning sales were up 17.3% on the previous year, adding there were higher numbers of customers in the late evening hours as well.

McDonald’s in the Netherlands performs very well within the group. ‘We are among the top five countries with the highest comparable sales growth,’ said Manu Steijaert, director of McDonald’s Nederland.
