The British School of Amsterdam has bought a disused prison to convert to a new school campus.

The building on Havenstraat, in the Oud-Zuid district, was most recently used to accommodate 180 Syrian refugees. The school hopes to be able to move in once renovation work is completed in 2020.

The relocation will allow the privately run school to consolidate its facilities on a single site with capacity for 1,200 pupils. Currently the British School occupies three sites spread across the city.

The school takes in children from the age of three to 18 and teaches the English national curriculum, including GCSE and A Level exams in the last three years.
