The circulation of Dutch daily newspapers fell further in 2016, but most reported sharp gains in digital readership, the NRC reported on Friday.

The national media research group NOM  said in its annual report published on Thursday that the NRC Handelsblad lost 5.2% of its print readers, but saw a 51% increase in digital readership for an overall gain of 8% on 2015.

The Telegraaf’s print readership fell by 8% to 382,089, the NOM report said.

The Financieele Dagblad’s paid print circulation fell by just over 300 to 46,420, but its digital circulation was 16% higher at 68,646. The FD was the first national paper to launch a paid access website in 2011.
