AZ wins on penalties to join Vitesse in KNVB Cup final

The final of this season’s KNVB Cup will be between AZ of Alkmaar and Arnhem side Vitesse.

AZ won their semi-final on Thursday night 3-2 on penalties against first division side SC Cambuur, who had already seen off Ajax and Utrecht earlier in the competition. The match had ended 0-0 after extra time.

The final will take place on April 30 at the Kuip stadium in Rotterdam. Vitesse beat Sparta Rotterdam 1-2 on Wednesday evening to take the other final place.

AZ, currently fifth in the Eredivisie, last won the cup in 2013. Vitesse, just one point behind in the league, has never won and was last a finalist in 1990.
