Wilders ‘shocked’ over new protection squad claims

Two police officers involved in protecting PVV leader Geert Wilders were suspended in 2015 for ‘financial irregularities,’ justice minister Stef Blok confirmed on Friday.

They were both part of the squad of officers who accompany Wilders when he is in public places, Blok said.

Blok made the announcement following claims earlier this week that another police officer involved in protecting both Wilders and the royal family had been leaking information to a criminal gang, possibly involved in money laundering.

According to the NRC the two were brothers Anouar and Omar El M who were arrested in April 2015 as part of an investigation into fraud involving meat. The Telegraaf says they were picked up as part of a probe into a major money laundering ring.

Wilders said the new reports have shaken him badly, particularly as the guards know where his safe houses are. On Thursday Wilders said the PVV would no longer take part in public walkabouts because of the security breach.

Blok, however, said the two were suspended because of the tight controls surrounding Wilders’ security and that he had not been in any danger.

He declined to give further information about the ‘financial irregularities’.
