Brexit could create up to 10,000 jobs, Dutch employers group says

At least 100 companies are looking to relocate to the Netherlands as a result of Brexit, employers lobby group VNO-NCW chairman Hans de Boer told broadcaster NOS.

Taken together, these companies could generate between 5,000 and 10,000 new jobs in the Netherlands, De Boer said.

De Boer said he based his estimate on the lobby group’s own international contacts. In addition, many foreign companies which already have a presence in the Netherlands are looking to expand it, he said.

Financial services companies are leading the pack ever since Britain opted to leave the EU, De Boer said.

Earlier this month, the NRC reported that the Dutch financial services regulator AFM and Amsterdam officials are in talks with a number of companies considering relocating from Britain because of Brexit.

An AFM spokesman told the paper a number of ‘financial market companies’ have reported to the regulator to ‘orientate themselves about relocation’. So far, the spokesman said, officials have had talks with ‘several dozen’ companies, including traders, asset managers and companies which sell financial data.

Amsterdam’s economic affairs alderman Kajsa Ollongren told the paper her talks have become ‘more concrete’. ‘Companies are coming to have a look around,’ she said, adding that she is talks with ‘more than a handful’ of financial and non financial firms.
