Spanish police arrested a Moroccan citizen carrying Dutch identity papers on the airport of Figueres (Girona) on Friday, Spanish papers report.

The man was detained at the request of the Dutch authorities who suspect him of being a member of IS.

The man, whose name was not revealed, had come to the attention of the security services of various countries when he travelled back from Turkey to Spain. It is suspected his movements may be related to some ‘future terrorist act in Europe’, police said in a statement.

Efforts will now be concentrated on finding out ‘the degree of radicalisation of the man, his possible contacts in Europe, the extent of his alleged activities for IS and his reasons for coming to Spain’, police said.

According to Spanish broadcaster Tele5, the man had been in Syria and intended to travel on to Germany.
