Dozens of police officers, soldiers, mounted police and forensic experts, some with dogs, are combing woods near Driebergen in the hunt for a 13-year-old girl.

The girl, named as Ikram Ammar, failed to return home from school on Monday afternoon. A bag thought to belong to her was found close to Driebergen-Zeist station on Monday evening. Her bike was also found on the edge of the village woods.

Police have drafted in a helicopter to help in the hunt.

The size of the search team relates to the area that needs to be scoured in the hope of finding the girl, a police spokesman said. ‘Visibility is restricted in a wood, so we need more people,’ he said.

The spokesman said that as yet they have no idea where the girl is. ‘We are taking all scenarios into account,’ he said.
