Foreign firms created 11,000 new jobs last year

Foreign firms setting up business in the Netherlands in 2016 created over 11,000 new jobs, the economic affairs ministry said on Monday. That is up some 1,400 on 2015, the ministry said.

In particular, logistics and distribution centres were responsible for a large number of new jobs. Among the new arrivals was British household goods webshop AO World set up shop in Utrecht.

Other notable job motors were Danone, which opened a new baby food factory in Cuijk and software company Oracle, which launched a service centre in Amsterdam.

Most of the new jobs were created by American companies, followed by British firms.
