The number of Dutch youngsters leaving home to study at university or college continues to fall, national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

Between July and October last year, 46,000 Dutch youngsters aged 17 to 21 registered in a different local authority, a drop of 7% on a year ago.

The biggest decline was in the popular student city of Utrecht, where the number of new young residents fell by 25%, the CBS said.

The downward trend began in the 2014/15 academic year when student grants were scrapped, the CBS said.
