Inflation in the Netherlands rose to 1% in December but inflation over 2016 as a whole remains 0.3%, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday.

That is the lowest figure since 1987, the CBS said. Lower electricity prices and limited social housing rent rises helped keep inflation to a minimum. In addition, airline tickets and foreign holidays were also cheaper.

Calculated according to harmonised EU rules, the Dutch inflation rate averaged 0.1% in 2016. That is the lowest level since 1997 when the harmonised index was introduced. The average rate of inflation within the EU last year was 0.2%.
