The north of the Netherlands and the Wadden Sea islands will be hit by strong winds, possibly storm force on Monday evening.

Heavy rain, hail and thunder are also likely. The KNMI weather bureau has issued a yellow weather warning for Groningen, Friesland and Noord Holland.

Ferry services to the islands have been adapted to take account of the strong winds and in Delfzijl, storm barriers will be shut because of the extremely high tides, news agency ANP reported.

The strong winds will die away overnight and on Tuesday it will be cloudy with sunny spells. The temperature will hit a maximum of seven degrees. Towards the end of the week, night frosts are likely in sheltered places.
