Offshore services group Allseas has won an order for a 900 km-long subsea pipeline in the Black Sea from Gazprom subsidiary SouthStream Transport.

The longest pipeline order ever received by Allseas, it will form part of TurkStream which will move Russian gas to Turkey via the Black Sea.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Allseas said: ‘If there is little work and many companies are vying for it, there is pressure on prices.’

The company’s main competitors in this area are Saipem of Italy and France’s Technip. Allseas also won an a option for a second parallel pipeline which in places will be 2km below the surface of the sea.

Allseas will employ its Pioneering Spirit, the largest ship in the world, on the project. The €2.5bn vessel can carry 27,000 tonnes of oil and gas pipeline on deck. The ship was designed for work on offshore oil and gas platforms: this is the first time it will be used for laying a pipeline.
