Four big sponsors leave Dutch Olympics Committee

Dutch Olympics committee logoFour of the six big sponsors of the Dutch sport umbrella group and Olympics committee NOC*NSF are not renewing their contracts.

Health insurance group Zilveren Kruis said on Tuesday it will stop sponsoring the body at the end of the month, broadcaster NOS reported. Volkswagen, temporary employment agency Randstad and accountants group EY said earlier they are pulling out.

Insiders say the four big firms have each put in €5m over the past four years of sponsorship.

‘We always take a critical look at our expenditure, including personnel, accommodation, sponsorships and advertising,’ a Zilveren Kruis spokesman told Nieuwsuur. ‘We will remain a NOC*NSF partner but in a different form.’

Toyota

Randstad had been a sponsor for 20 years, EY 18 years and Volkswagen 15 years. Volkswagen was forced to pull out because the International Olympic Committee has signed an exclusive deal with Toyota.

The NOC*NSF is still in talks with Rabobank about its sponsorship deal. The national lottery has agreed to remain a sponsor.

Last month, sports minister Edith Schippers said she had allocated a further €10m to boost top level sport in the Netherlands.
