The number of people over the age of 75 who have access to internet at home has risen from 40% to 60% over the previous four years, national statistics office CBS said on Tuesday.

Some 30% also have either a smartphone or tablet. Four years ago, just 10% of the over-75s had a tablet and 5% a smartphone.

Nine out of 10 people over 75 say they use internet to send and read emails, while 70% look for information or do their banking online.

Among people aged 65 to 75, 65% now have a smartphone, compared with 24% in 2012.

In total, 94% of people in the Netherlands now have an internet connection at home, the CBS said.
