Access to wireless internet is a basic necessity for everyone in the Netherlands, according to Dutch economic affairs minister Henk Kamp.

The minister says over the past decade wireless internet has developed from being a phone or computer option into a basic need. ‘Without this technology, our economy would stagnate. Consumers and companies need to access services via wireless internet and that will only increase,’ the minister said.

Kamp made the comments in a new policy document outlining the government’s strategy to make more efficient use of frequencies for wireless communications. He is due to publish more about the allocation of new frequencies in spring 2017.
