Bayern beat PSV Eindhoven; we gave what we had, says coach Cocu

champions leaguePSV Eindhoven, the only Dutch club in this season’s Champions League competition, will not qualify for the knock-out stage after losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

PSV had led through Santiago Arias but Robert Lewandowski scored from a first-half penalty and scored again 16 minutes from time to give Bayern the win they needed to progress.

The home loss means PSV still has only one point from four matches and is bottom of Group D on goal differences. A win over Rostov could still give them a place in the Europa League.

‘They were a few sizes too big for us and there is a clear difference in strength, striker Luuk de Jong said after the game.

‘We made a real match of it,’ said PSV coach Philip Cocu. ‘We can look each other in the eye. We gave what we had and we worked as a team.’
