Ajax send beer to help Scots celebrate unbeaten run record

East Kilbride players watch Van der SarAmsterdam football club Ajax has helped a minor Scottish club celebrate their world record of 27 wins in row by sending over a van full of beer.

Ajax had held the record run of 26 wins for 44 years until the Scottish Lowland League club FC East Kilbride beat BSC Glasgow 3-1 on Saturday.

A lorry branded with the Ajax logo drove onto the pitch at full-time with 27 crates of beer for players and staff. Via a laptop, Dutch international Edwin van der Sar, who is now the club’s marketing manager, was on hand to give a short video speech congratulating the Scots.

Ajax’ run took place in the 1971/72 season when the club was led by Johan Cruyff. According to the Guardian, the East Kilbride record will not be recognised by the Guiness Book of World Records because they are not a top level club.

The beer sent to the Scots comes from Belgian brewer Jupiler, which has a sponsorship deal with Ajax.
