Qualcomm to take over Dutch chip maker NXP for $47bn
US company Qualcomm is taking over Dutch chip maker NXP Semiconductors for €43bn, in what is one of the biggest takeovers ever involving a Dutch firm.
The deal has been approved by both boards of directors. Qualcomm is paying $110 per share in cash for NXP, representing a total enterprise value of approximately $47bn, the companies said in a joint statement.
NXP, part of Dutch electronics giant Philips until 2006, has a worldwide workforce of 44,000, of whom 2,400 are in the Netherlands. The company booked turnover of over $6bn in 2015
NXP has a production site in Nijmegen and a research centre in Eindhoven, where its headquarters are also located. Unions say they fear the takeover could lead to the disappearance of Dutch jobs.
